Private Piano Study
The Music Clubhouse strives to provide a joyful experience at the piano for all students, from children to adults. Each lesson is a collaborative learning experience between student and teacher. Students learn sound musicianship from the earliest years that moves them towards independent life skills at the piano. With this approach, students may pursue piano and music as a vocation or simply have the ability to make music in all areas of their lives.
Recital Performances
With quality instruction and encouragement, students are prepared to perform for friends and family, sharing their music with the community. The Clubhouse and its affiliated teachers offer three recitals each school year: a holiday recital in December, the Friends and Family Ensemble Recital in March, and a spring recital in May. In the Friends and Family event, students perform in ensembles with parents, siblings, family friends or with other students from the Clubhouse.
Auditions and Competitions
The Music Clubhouse participates in a number of events that allow students to receive critique or to compete for opportunities to advance and play in special performance. Though teachers might recommend that students participate in certain events, the final decision to enter is always made by the family. These opportunities include offerings of the Kansas City Music Teachers Association, such as Music Progressions (performance critique and theory test) and the Concerto Competition. The Clubhouse also enters students in the National Guild Auditions, allowing them to play programs ranging from two to 20 pieces.
Enrollment Details
The Music Clubhouse usually must maintain a waiting list, but will enroll students throughout the year as the schedule permits. Teachers have an informal interview with new students to review their previous study, if applicable, and place them at appropriate levels using piano study materials best suited for their needs. To initiate enrollment, complete the inquiry form in the right column.
Students beginning in the fall study for 35 weeks, beginning in August, with breaks for holidays and spring break. Thirty-three of the weeks are private lessons and the other two are Performance Club Classes held in fall and spring. These classes include opportunities for solo performance and ensemble playing, activities for strengthening theory and aural skills, and visits with some of the great composers in music history.
The length of the lesson depends on age and availability, with offerings being 30, 45 or 60 minutes weekly. Payments may be made in monthly installments, with the total amount for the 35 weeks divided evenly over 10 months, August to May. Families are also responsible for purchasing piano study materials as well as any audition or competition entry fees.
Summer study is available with students taking four to eight lessons. Each student's schedule is individually determined to allow for teacher and student summer vacation.
